45. New Jersey

Oh yeah that’s right!

I feel like today I could just go on and on with a list of jokes about New Jersey. This state is, for the most part, just one big suburb. It is also the most densely populated state in the country by a pretty significant margin, so you don’t even really have the opportunity to escape the urban sprawl to something pretty.

Newark- largest city in New Jersey

Like I mean come on! Tell me one person who would go on a trip to the Northeast and would be  like, “Ooh, I want to go see Newark!”. Of course you can’t because you, a sane person, would rather see a cool city like Philadelphia or New York. But New Jersey is just the suburbs and exurbs of those two great cities. And don’t get me started on Atlantic City! It’s like they made a Vegas for people who get monthly Social Security payments.

I’ve been outside of the Newark airport in New Jersey once, and, not only was it the ugliest part of our entire 7 day trip, but we also got stuck in traffic! The best part about the view in New Jersey was approaching New York City, a much, much, much cooler place.

And don’t even get me started on how it’s the only state that you can’t pump your own gas. You have to wait like 5 minutes for an attendant to come out to do something you could easily do on your own, and then you’re expected to tip too! Who came up with stuff?! Does the state not trust its own people enough to do a simple task?

What does redeem New Jersey ever so slightly though is the people. Most people I’ve met from New Jersey are actually pretty wonderful people who have that classic, East Coast no-nonsense attitude. Maybe they’re hardened from being from America’s punching bag. Also the state has the highest corporate tax rate in the country so good on you, New Jersey!
