47. Kansas
I hate to be a broken record here, but what’s wrong with these Great Plains states all boil down to pretty much the same thing. It’s flat. There’s lots of corn. I don't have much to talk about the cities.
Example of a Great Wolf Lodge
In all honesty, despite being from a bordering state, I actually haven’t spent much time in Kansas. I haven’t driven through it in so long that my primary memories mostly boil down to visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City. Now if you’re a 13 year old kid, that is the coolest place in the world. Not sure how sanitary it is, but nothing beats a waterpark hotel.
If I do eventually spend more time there, maybe I’ll be able to find more to say about the cities there like Wichita, Topeka, or Lawrence. I’ve heard many people say that some combination of these are underrated gems. But until I spend more time there, what I do know is that Western Kansas looks like the worst parts of Colorado, Southern Kansas looks like the worst parts of Oklahoma, Eastern Kansas looks like the worst parts of Missouri, and North Kansas, well, it just looks like most of Nebraska.
