7. New York

Hey, I’m ranking here.

Alright, I’ll put my stereotypes to the side for a moment. New York is so awesome. The state and the city. I kind of wish I didn’t have to rank the two together because of how incredible both are for very separate reasons. On my list of states I want to visit again next, New York sits at number 2. So let’s go over why I want to go back.

Where else could it be?!

Most of this comes to how incredible New York City is. I think for most of my life, I didn’t quite get why everyone loved NYC so much, but then I went on my trip through the Northeast. And oh my god, I get it now! New York City is infectious in how fun it is. Everyone is packed close enough together that you can’t try to leave the party since you’ll just be pulled back in. I can see that not being desirable for some people, but for me it is so enthralling. I was there only one day, and the amount of events within just a 10 block radius in Manhattan was wild. But unfortunately that’s all I got to see.

Next time I go to New York, I want to be shown around by a New Yorker who knows the streets so well. I want to see Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens. Hell, maybe there’s even a world where I’ll want to see Staten Island. What makes New York City so cool is just how diverse the city is. The fact that you can walk from block to block and each one will often be a different group of people from a different part of the world is so cool. It’s like a small version of the earth that you can walk through and see so much in such a short period of time. And this is all because New York is a city of immigrants and always has been.

Mmm, Steamed Hams

New York is more than just its major city though. Once you go out into the country, you get to see how gorgeous it is. The fact that it is all in a state that has possibly the greatest city in the world makes it a little unfair. I only got to spend a little time in upstate New York when I went to Buffalo to see Niagara Falls (great wings btw), but I would love to spend more time there especially in the fall when all the trees get pretty. I even hear upstate New York has Steamed Hams!

New York is amazing because you can get really whatever you want out of it. I crave more, I need to go back. Sometimes I even think about how cool it would be to live there. The only thing holding it back on this list is how amazing the remaining states are.
