Hotel Transylvania 2

Release year: 2015
My Rating: ★★★ out of 5

Tagline: They’re back to raise a little terror.

Synopsis: When the old-old-old-fashioned vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together, Hotel Transylvania is in for a collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool.

I don't have too much to say here because this movie is just a sequel of the first and doesn't change up all that much. Despite that though, I do like this movie more than the first.

Is Hotel Transylvania 2 better than the original? Probably not, but it's similar enough in quality to the first that the humor really puts it over the edge for me. Not all that different from my opinions on Sandler's other sequel, Grown Ups 2. This movie feels significantly funnier than the first and it all comes down to the inclusion of one new character.

All hail the almighty Blobby! When we started this movie I was thinking "Oh god, they're adding some sort of "Minion-like" comic relief character. This is gonna suck!" How wrong I was, this little blob guy is the source of all the funniest moments in the movie for me. I don't know why, and I don't know how, but I love Blobby. There really is a blob shaped hole in the first movie.

This movie also has Mel Brooks in it, and how can you hate on that! Now that Brooks is 100 (Comedy must be a fountain of youth!) it’s pretty rare to see him in new movies. I like that he’s here to be the old racist dad who doesn’t like humans. Wow, this movie is like real life! Except real life doesn’t have Blobby, unfortunately.

Everything else is fine to good just like the first movie. But that Blobby guy alone bumps up this movie to be pretty high on my ranking.

But I can't rank it too highly because they missed the chance to play "The Monster" by Eminem ft. Rihanna in the credits, and I can't forgive them for that. I'm friends with the monster.
