Synopsis: Jack Sadelstein, a successful advertising executive in Los Angeles with a beautiful wife and kids, dreads one event each year: the Thanksgiving visit of his twin sister Jill. Jill’s neediness and passive-aggressiveness is maddening to Jack, turning his normally tranquil life upside down.
OH GOD IS THIS MY PUNISHMENT FOR SAYING I WANTED ADAM SANDLER TO BE WEIRD AGAIN? PLEASE, I TAKE IT BACK!
I'm sure many people of heard of how bad Jack and Jill is, and to most, that's probably what they expect. I mean, the plot is literally that Adam Sandler's twin sister, also played by Adam Sandler, comes home to visit. Doesn't that just sound terrible? It's like they were trying to make one of the worst things imaginable. And maybe it's even worse than you'd expect.
I think I need to spell out what happens. Adam Sandler, Jack, is trying to make a commercial for Dunkin' Donuts for the new "Dunkaccino" drink. And who do they want for the ad? Al Pacino. But this happens at the same time when Adam Sandler, Jill, comes home. And Jill is just a pleasure. Not annoying in the slightest. Nope, not annoying at all (This is sarcasm if you haven't picked it up already)! So how do these two things come together. Well, Jill, Sandler, is there when Jack, Sandler, meets Al Pacino. Yes, the very real Al Pacino is in this movie and one of the most important characters. And Al Pacino falls in love with the raw sexiness of Jill, Sandler. Jill, Sandler, doesn't like him though so Sandler, Jack, pushes them on a date. Jill, Sandler, goes, but leaves because he's creepy which means that Jack, Sandler, won't get him for the ad. So Jack, Sandler, dresses up as Jill, Sandler, to complete the date and fool Al Pacino. Al Pacino, sexually harasses Jack, Sandler, dressed as Jill, Sandler. Afterwards Jack, Sandler, realizes that maybe he shouldn't force Jill, Sandler, to this kind of life. But Pacino respects that and does the ad anyway.
I hope that was crystal clear to everyone.
I don't know who I hate in this movie more, Jack or Jill. Jill is just so so so annoying, like maybe more than any other Sandler character ever. She's rude, she's self centered, she's loud. Just all the makings of someone you don't want to watch for 90 minutes. But Jack, all he cares about is this stupid advertisement to the point where he doesn't give a shit what he puts his family through. He was trying to force Jill into a relationship with someone she doesn't like and was creeping on her. Jack just straight up hates his sister and is so mean. UGH!
The jokes in this movie are pretty terrible. They're mostly just the same "Oh this woman looks like a man" jokes, over and over and over again. Oh, Jill is too strong. Oh, Jill is built like a truck. Oh, Jill is gross. 90 MINUTES! And then when you do get a break from those jokes it's 3 minutes straight of Jill shitting on the toilet because she ate Mexican food. HIGH-LARIOUS!
There is a bright light in this movie that saves it from being the most insufferable things on the planet. That, of course, is Al Pacino. He owns this role. I have no idea why he agreed to be in this movie, but he does anything but half-ass it. Every movement, every line he delivers with so much oomph. Ya gotta respect it. And it all culminates in the final "Dunkaccino" ad that is the greatest part of movie. Yes, they make you sit through all of Jack and Jill to get to one glorious moment. That almost pisses me off even more.
Jack and Jill is very bad. Terrible even. But I will give it some credit: it is better than Going Overboard. That isn't much though because Going Overboard is barely even a movie to begin with. And would you believe it, there's still a movie I dislike more coming soon.
